About Us
Therapy for real life...
The Fenrir Clinic was founded on a simple belief: therapy should evolve with the people it serves.
Life has changed, families have changed, relationships have changed, and our understanding of emotional and psychological wellbeing continues to grow. Therapy should reflect that. It should be thoughtful and clinically grounded, but it should also be human, flexible and relevant to the realities of modern life.
We don’t believe therapy should feel distant, intimidating or unnecessarily clinical. Nor do we believe that one approach can possibly suit every person who walks through the door. Good therapy begins with the individual, not the model.
Our work is informed by psychoanalytic and relational thinking, but we draw on different approaches where they are useful. We are interested not only in what is happening now, but in the experiences, relationships and patterns that have shaped you, often long before you were aware of them.
Therapy with us is collaborative. We listen, we think with you, we ask questions, and sometimes we challenge you. The relationship between therapist and client matters, and we believe warmth, honesty, curiosity and even humour can sit comfortably alongside serious therapeutic work.
Above all, therapy should help you understand yourself more deeply and use that understanding beyond the therapy room: in your relationships, your choices, your boundaries and the life you want to build.
This is therapy for real people, living real lives.
Fenrir Hannah Hanssen MA, NCPS (Accred.)
Fenrir is a highly qualified and experienced psychoanalytic psychotherapist, relationship therapist, coach, clinical supervisor and academic. Her work brings together clinical expertise, academic research and a deep respect for the individuality and complexity of each person.
Her practice is grounded in psychoanalytic and relational thinking, while drawing on a broad range of therapeutic approaches according to the needs of the individual. Rather than simply treating symptoms, Fenrir is interested in understanding the person as a whole: their history, relationships, internal world and the patterns that may continue to influence how they experience themselves and others.
Before entering private practice, Fenrir worked as a psychotherapist within an NHS Community Mental Health multidisciplinary team, supporting people experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties and levels of complexity. This experience continues to inform a practice that is clinically robust while remaining warm, human and collaborative.
Alongside her clinical work, Fenrir has an academic and research background in psychoanalytic studies. Her particular interests include trauma and PTSD, especially combat trauma; suicidality; post-partum depression and parenting; psychoanalytic perspectives on neurodiversity (Fenrir also brings lived experience of neurodivergence to her work, alongside her clinical and academic understanding); and the relationship between psychology, occultism and parapsychology.
Fenrir has undertaken further professional development across child analysis, relationship therapy, sexology, CBT, Gestalt and coaching, allowing her to work flexibly while maintaining a strong psychoanalytic foundation.
She also comes from a longstanding family tradition of shamanic and occult practice. For clients who wish to explore spirituality, unusual experiences or beliefs that may sit outside conventional psychological frameworks, this background enables those experiences to be approached with curiosity and respect rather than automatically pathologised.
At the heart of Fenrir's work is the belief that therapy is not about telling someone who they should become. It is about helping them understand who they are, what has shaped them and what they want to do with that understanding.

Chris Smith MA
Chris brings a genuine curiosity about people and the workings of the human mind to his work at The Fenrir Clinic. Caring, kind and approachable, he offers clients a warm and thoughtful space to explore what is happening in their lives, while also being willing to ask the difficult questions when they matter.
With an MA in Jungian Studies from the University of Essex, Chris has a particular interest in exploring what lies beneath the surface of our thoughts, behaviours, relationships and choices. His work is informed by an understanding of the unconscious and a fascination with what makes each individual “tick”.
Chris is also particularly interested in the relationship between our fundamental human drives and the demands of modern life. Many of our needs for belonging, physical challenge, competition, cooperation, purpose and connection have deep roots, yet the environments in which we now live are very different from those in which those drives developed. He is interested in how people find healthy contemporary outlets for these needs, through areas such as sport, physical activity, community, shared endeavour and meaningful challenge.
Chris’s coaching style is warm, thoughtful and collaborative. He is not a passive practitioner: alongside listening without judgement, he will ask questions, offer different perspectives and gently challenge clients where this may help them move forward.
His work provides an opportunity to step away from the noise of everyday life and think more deeply about where you are, what you want and what may be getting in the way.
Chris works as part of The Fenrir Clinic team and receives regular clinical supervision. His work reflects the clinic’s wider belief that meaningful change begins with understanding the individual rather than trying to fit them into a predetermined model.
